Hey! I found the proof! It was in the pudding! (P90X Progress Update)

If there’s one thing I know for sure, I am a big old sucker for data.
Why?
Tracking achievement in quantifiable terms is ridiculously motivating.
Today, at my second body composition test, the numbers gave me valuable data for moving forward - and provided a huge motivational boost.

Running is My Always Lover

I’ve always been a runner.
No really, I’m one of those people that can not run for ages and then just go out and do five miles - or six - whatever.  It’s just sort of how I’m built.  It’s in my blood.  It’s like breathing to me… just part of how I make it through […]

Thoughts on the Holidays: Ten Tips for Success

I hate all those holiday party survival guides that tell you to stick to the veggie tray, don’t you?
It’s like, "No shit, Sherlock."
Give me something more.  Give me something better.
I’m headed down to my Sicilian in-laws place for Christmas and I’m already starting to get nervous about how to maintain my program while I’m there.  […]

Yoga Blocks and Motivation

People frequently ask me "how I stay so motivated".
It’s true, I’m a pretty high energy person (the people in my life right now are laughing at my use of understatement), but I’m definitely not always motivated.  I was thinking about this yesterday because Skwigg answered this question for the second time on her blog and […]

Willpower. It Only Works When Your Heart is Really In It.

In order to preempt the inevitable post-cylcocross depression, I put together an extensive off-season fitness plan with clear, measurable goals, and clear steps.
On Monday morning after the USGP I knew exactly what I needed to do, so I woke up and did it.
I did my "intake" test and measurements for P90X.  The week before, I’d […]

Now is the Time for Squash: Eat Right with a Favorite Fall Recipe

Man.  When I was a kid I hated squash (further proof that kids are dumb ;).  Seriously, just the mention of it would send me into a fit of convulsions.
But I’m reformed.  I now recognize that squash is amazing and incredible!  Especially winter varieties which are much more flavorful than their summer brethren.
The coolest part […]

Nutrition Tip #2: The Sunday Ritual

This tip from John Berardi comes just in time.  Why?  Because tomorrow’s Sunday so you can apply this right away.
The Sunday Ritual is what I consider to be the key driving factor in the success or failure of my nutrition plans.  I didn’t need Berardi to tell me that I should do this, and you […]

27 Nutrition Tips from The Master (John Berardi): Part One

When it comes to nutriton, there are a lot of voices out there on the internet vying for your attention. Doing a simple search for “best nutrition strategies” can be overwhelming enough to deter you from making the changes that you want to make. Who to believe?!
Everyone is a fitness expert, right? […]

Cycling Buddy: Find a Workout Partner for Inspiration

Leif Erickson trail is dark and damp.  We roll up it, turning over pedals with legs that are something more than tired.
Spent.
We’re recovering.  Neither one of us really understands this “recovery ride” thing, but we’ve learned to have faith and take chances.  We’re giving it a shot.
We are alone.  At least so far as cyclists […]

Like Pumpkin Pie? You’re Going to Love This Festive Jay Robb Protein Shake

I know what you’re thinking.
And, no, I don’t work for Jay Robb.  I don’t have a reseller’s agreement and I’m not even an affiliate.   I just happen to think they’ve got some really rockstar products.
Among them?
Yammit! Energy Nuggets
I happened to get my hands on some Yammits a while back and I have slowly been experimenting […]
