What’s That in Your Mouth?

Cyclocross season is party time for me.  Beer, bikes, babes and whiskey.  It’s my favorite time of the year.  I love it.
But all that partying really takes a toll, man.  I’m tired!  And I look like hell!  And Sal has started calling me “Janice” again (this is a Goodfella’s reference).  That’s never a good thing.
So […]

Triple (Yes, You Read That Right) Chocolate Pecan Protein Shake

Eat your heart out, ErikV.  I have improved upon the double chocolate pecan protein shake… some thought it was not possible.

No Really, Get Your Iron Checked.

I’ll admit it.  I was mega-skeptical about this whole iron thing when it came up.  It’s one of those things where one person tells you about something and then you start hearing it all over.
The iron buzz!!  Get your iron checked!  Everyone is doing it!
It all started last year when I met HG during ‘cross.  […]

Double Chocolate Pecan Shake (Yes, I swear it’s good for you.)

Sal has a hardcore sweet tooth.
Protein shakes have come a long way and, in general, they taste pretty good when made with dairy or soy milk - especially Jay Robb.  My sister especially loves BSN Chocolate Fudge flavor.
However, even chocolatey protein shakes are sometimes not enough to satisfy my sweets-craving boyfriend.  But I finally figured […]

Hey! I found the proof! It was in the pudding! (P90X Progress Update)

If there’s one thing I know for sure, I am a big old sucker for data.
Why?
Tracking achievement in quantifiable terms is ridiculously motivating.
Today, at my second body composition test, the numbers gave me valuable data for moving forward - and provided a huge motivational boost.

Boogie Monsters: Taking the Fear out of Nighttime Munchies

In 2000, Sal and I lived in a flat across the street from Ocean Beach in San Francisco.  It was the heyday, just before the crash really took hold (and tossed us out on our ear, mind you).  As I watched the Tour de France, I picked up my cell phone, called up Kozmo delivery […]

Just in Time for the Holidays: A Free Cookbook Full of Healthy Desserts!

Yep.
You read me right.
John Berardi, the guy behind the Precision Nutrition plan that I like so much, has a free eBook available for download and it’s crammed full of desserts recipes that are so healthy it’s stupid. That makes Heidi happy heading into the Dessert Landmine that is December.
You can pick up the book here:  […]

Guilt Free Pancakes Just in Time for Saturday Morning

Who doesn’t love pancakes?
When I was a kid, I lived for pancake mornings.  On Saturdays I would shoot out of bed and rot my brain in front of cartoons for a few hours before my mom and dad got up.  Then dad would cook a big-assed batch of buttermilk pancakes while standing in his navy […]

Now is the Time for Squash: Eat Right with a Favorite Fall Recipe

Man.  When I was a kid I hated squash (further proof that kids are dumb ;).  Seriously, just the mention of it would send me into a fit of convulsions.
But I’m reformed.  I now recognize that squash is amazing and incredible!  Especially winter varieties which are much more flavorful than their summer brethren.
The coolest part […]

Nutrition Tip #2: The Sunday Ritual

This tip from John Berardi comes just in time.  Why?  Because tomorrow’s Sunday so you can apply this right away.
The Sunday Ritual is what I consider to be the key driving factor in the success or failure of my nutrition plans.  I didn’t need Berardi to tell me that I should do this, and you […]
