Resources

I’m in the process of building out this resources page. Rather than just provide you with a bunch of links that don’t mean anything to you, I’ve included a short blurb about each link to tell you why I’m including it here, and why I think it’s worth taking the time to check out.

Fitness Blogs

Tom Venuto’s "Burn the Fat" Blog Tom Venuto is one of my favorite nutrition guys out there. He tells it straight. No funny business. His blog is packed with great stuff.

Turbulence Training Blog - Craig Ballantyne Craig is no-nonsense - his blog is imformative and his program, Turbulence Training, is ass-kicking hard and works.

Lean and Hungry Fitness Blog Entertaining and well-named blog about training, weight-lifting, etc.

Alwyn Cosgrove’s Blog Cosgrove is a fat-burning and muscle-building expert that I trust - loads of great content here.

Caustic Musings (Maggie Wang) Maggie Wang is a one-woman fitness avenger! This woman’s tracking and discipline will astound and inspire you. Besides that, she has one of the most useful and practical blogs that I have ever read - don’t miss her resources page!

Fitness Reference Resources and Programs

Precision Nutrition This is my current favorite nutrition program. It is a complete package, customizable for all levels from beginners to super-advanced workout-and-nutrition-aholics.

Gourmet Nutrition eBook This is the PDF of the Gourmet Nutrition cookbook that comes with Precision Nutrition. My kitchen now lives and dies by this cookbook. Seriously.

Burn the Fat Book Loaded with tons of great information, written by a fellow who walks to walk and has nutrition nailed.

Turbulence Training GREAT bodyweight workout plans and amazing, supportive community. When you join Turbulence Training you’re getting a ton of resources that are updated and added to daily. Warning: these workouts are hard.

Fit Over 40 Man. This is a seriously amazing book that will transform your ideas about age and fitness. Packed with fantastic real-life success stories.

Master Cleanse The hippy in me loves a good cleanse every now and then. It goes contrary to some of my other beliefs about feeding the muscle, stoking metabolism, etc. but something about a good cleansing program is always really good for my spirit.

Cycling Blogs

Molly Cameron Local cyclocross racer extraordinairre and owner of local bike shop. Molly’s blog is what got me into cyclocross racing in the first place.

RaceCX Cyclocross specific blog produced by Molly Cameron’s roommate, Brian Ellin.

Bike Portland Everything you ever wanted to know about anything related to cycling in the great city of Portland, Oregon. Produced by Jonathan Maus, featuring superb interviews, analysis, discussion, debate, and really top-notch photography.

ErikV Fast, local, Portland racer. He spells his name the cool way and keeps an entertaining corner of the web. His site is also very pretty. Like a princess. Entertaining race reports, witty musings on the world of cycling, and handy-dandy cycling-related tips and wisdom.

More Cyclocross Pictures Than You Can Handle A feed of all photos tagged "cyclocross" on flickr. (Yes, I know I’m a nerd.)

How To Avoid the Bummer Life This blog could alternately be called, "100% Crazy Shenanigans All the Time". Produced by the guy behind Swobo (who makes some really killer biking stuff, by the way)

Sweetpea Bicycles Austin and Natalie make some of the dopest women’s specific machines on the road. They’re local Portland kids and Natalie is an ex-messenger. Welding is sexy. I will have a Sweetpea bicycle - mark my words.

Belgium Knee Warmers Awesome blog digging into all things cycling. Well-written, witty, easy on the eyes, and funny as hell. Extra bonus: This guy really knows what he’s talking about - reading this blog will make you sound so pro.

Crossniacs Written by some crazy cyclocross kids from all over. Great race reports, killer training tips, and all around fund. Besides, their kits are cool and that’s all that really matters, right?

Velog Created by the aforementioned Brian Ellin of RaceCX, Velog is a social cycling log where you can see everyone else’s rides and keep a running log of your own. This is my velog where I log all my rides. These are my teammates Sherry and Sierra’s! You should join - it’s fun and free.
